Oh the horror of making 500k working at a large company of Google.

Seriously, I wonder if tech workers really even understand how lucky they are being able to sit at a desk instead of, say, toiling away in the mines.

SWE salaries aren't 500k everywhere. Even in expensive places in Europe you're lucky if you break 100k

I don't count Europe to be honest, they don't have an engineering culture. Regardless 100k is still good, better than making a third that toiling in the fields or mines.
