You probably can. On the protocol level with JSON-LD or other rich data packages that generate xml or standardized json endpoints. I did this for an open data portal, and this is something most G7 governments do with their federal open data portals using off the shelf packages (that are worth researching a bit obviously first), particularly in the python and flask world.
