Nice too see a free alternative, even though I suspect it won't feel reliable in practice for serious sites, though I'm hardly an expert on this topic so I better leave that to experts.
What I could say though is that I'm after 6 months of usage very sold on DNSimple, those guys just rock and it's a few bucks per month - read: nothing - and updates records fast-as-*, instant support, even for obscure things as "the great firewall"-issues, etc. For those that want to pick a safe card.
This is what we been saying for long time now, and with "our" solution there's no need for barcodes - we rely 100% on "the image". No names as that will only lead to bashing, so we'll just simply add on to this chorus: Barcodes are dying.
I use Dropbox as of today, but I would easily - already considered it - replace it with multiple alternatives. The valuation of Dropbox got me choking more than LinkedIn valuation; they aren't worth a fraction of that. Every reality-checked human on this planet knows that. They should have accepted Apples offer, I think Bitcasa will get it instead.
The "work on things you enjoy" part I buy - not the raise children part, but the article was written in a way it sounds like retirement = success. "This is how you become a me" kind of blog posts flood this forum. Very often I get the feeling too many in HN community are driven by money, which is sad.
Killer-tool! We have built some integrations to it to make our communication asynchronous (humans vs. humans, devs vs. servers, etc.), and got plans for even more. I know people been doing this for looong for IRC, but I find HipChat more usable for non-hackers (the biz folks "get it") and it's more tweakable (visually via HTML-formatting). Lovely.
When you start a startup I hope you do it to not fail. Even if you might fail first time(s) the mentality that "as long as I don't get fired" I consider the same as "I'm not sure about this". I would say you must believe in what you do to make it succeed, make other believe in it too.
I heard Bethesda's next version of the game will be titled "The Elder Patent Trolls". I also heard they are sueing all patent trolls for being patent trolls, as they consider themselves have (TM) on that in the current game industry. Will be interesting to follow. :)
You can't sue someone for being a patent troll just because you have a trademark on a game called "Patent Trolls"! Just like Bethesda can't sue scrolls for being scrolls now.
