This outage made me realize the script I was using to test my internet connectivity was depending 100% on cloudflare: I was both pinging 1.1 AND querying 1.1.1.1 using dig and, if both failed, the script would restart pppd.

Thread doesn’t depend on DHCP or DNS either.

So how will this work, if this becomes law? Ok, I understand whatsapp and signal and whatnot will have to change their code inorder to be able to provide cleartext messages for the goverment.

But there are other, maybe less known apps. Will all github repos that try to achieve e2ee be shut down? Won’t such apps just move to Tor?

We can compare it to anything that's already illegal, like distributing child porn for example. What do you think happens to github repos that distribute child porn? Won't they just move to Tor? Enforcement of one illegal bitstream is the same as enforcement of another illegal bitstream.

I’m selfhosting both miniflux (after being a paying customer for a while) and freshrss. Main reason for adding freshrss was to test the flaresolverr plugin. I haven’t been able to get it to work, but I kept using freshrss.

This seems to be specific to Home Assistant:

> Note that while this component is named bluetooth_proxy, only BLE devices (and their Home Assistant integrations) are supported.

One specific use-case I have in mind is controlling a Chromecast over the internet. So a smartphone should have its bluetooth signal relayed over an IP network. I haven’t found anything that would allow me to do that yet.

> held nuclear missiles for the Soviet Union during the Cold War, essentially putting them incredibly close to our shores.

I think those missiles were installed (at least partly) as a response to US deploying nuclear weapons in Turkey (and, to a lesser extent, Italy).

You are correct. That part is never said.

She mentioned she can’t rely on DHCP for deterministic address assignment, but if one can rely on DHCP and has a sufficiently smart switch, one can use DHCP option 82 to identify the end device based on which switch and switchport it is connected to. This then allows for all kinds of customizations without any “cooperation” from the end device.

The only solution I can think of is for Frontex to take full control of the external EU border. The way I see it, Frontex officers guarding the border would answer directly to Frontex (NOT to some national authority), would be paid by Frontex and, in case of misbehavior, would be prosecuted by an EU prosecutor.

This approach would greatly reduce the smuggling of illegal immigrants (which, in my opinion, happens because many Southern and - especially - Eastern national borders are porous due to easily bribable border guards). Sadly, I don’t see this happening anytime soon.

I’m guessing it’s actually răchie from pine cones, not needles. Either way, now I’m curious to try it.

Drinks made out of pine needles are pretty common. They have a very distinct nice taste.

Small soft pine cones are also used for jams and flavored liquors.

The difference between gin and borovicka is that gin is usually a neutral tasting alcohol that gets the juniper berries macerated in them, but borovicka is vapor infused during the distilling process.

One of my favourites is https://www.zufanek.cz/en/product/borovicka-juniper-spirit/
